Sad News

Gorden Threllfall, president of the Rotary Club of Tryon and recent host of the second plenary session of our District Conference died unexpectedly yesterday, April 29, 2012 while mowing his lawn. He apparently mowed over bees, went into shock and never regain consciousness.

He had just spent the day enjoying the christening of his granddaughter and sharing the event with our GSE team.

He will be missed.

District Conference First

After months of preparation, the District 7670 conference starts this week! Thursday Ron and I will meet the planning team in Concord for our precon and then the fun begins.

To my family who are non-Rotarians, a District Conference is the culmination of the Rotary year. Our Rotary year runs from July 1 to June 31. Some Districts throughout the world hold thier conferences at different times to accommodate rainy seasons or national holidays. When our District's Friendship Excahnge traveled to District 3050 in western India, we had the honor of attending thier District Conference just south of Mumbai in January. They had over 2000 Rotarians and guests and the conference was held in a HUGE tent and we ate outdoors.

This year our DC will be held in the Embassy Suites in Concord, NC - with a spa inside the hotel, the race track nearby and shopping within walking distance, we will have plenty to do in our spare time.

We plan to have one business session and one session for each avenue of service - New Generations, Club Service, Community Service, International Service and Vocational Service. In addition, we will hold a memorial service on Sunday morning to honor those Rotarians in our district that have died this Rotary year. This year we will also hold BINGO - with BINGO Babes and a NO Talent Required Talent Show.

Bill Parker hopes all will come and have FUN!
